I was quite perplexed by TC's spots. Are they eggs? Had she recently been to Disneyland? I didn't want her to feel embarrassed by them so I put her on this polka dot backdrop and I think she felt right at home.

Traveling Chicken and company will be on their way back to British Columbia, Canada to visit Julie Mai and I'm sure they'll have a wonderful time. I'll be checking in for future blog posts about TC's travels!

The Traveling Chicken in Eston, SK, Canada!

The Traveling Chicken and her entourage have landed in Eston, SK, Canada!

They weren't surprised that there was still snow on the ground in Saskatchewan. They were given fair warning during their visit with Marcela in B.C. that Saskatchewan weather can be quite finicky. The snow had mostly melted away at one point, but we've been having some late winter pushes this spring.

I wanted Ms. Chick to experience the warmer Saskatchewan landscape in all its wheat-loving glory. So I let her take in this painting of a summer storm over the prairie field during harvest. Saskatchewan, after all, is also known as the "Land of the Living Skies" and "The Bread Basket of Canada."

I will be sitting down to create a painting of Ms. Chick today and then I will send her and her friends to continue their travels... Stay posted!

Wow, we had a blast!! TC and company finally calmed down from the excitement of being here in Victoria, BC and posed for me for a couple of hours. They were delighted to find on my coffee table a couple of books on Traveling Destinations and Must-See places. They spent the entire time hanging out on a pile of some of my favourite art and travel books in my studio planning their next escapades (I didn't have the heart to tell them it was all already planned out for them!). All in all we spent a wonderful week, telling stories of travels, art and painting and it was all music to my ears as traveling is one of my passions. I LOVE to discover new places and cultures and can't wait to go on another adventure.
It was quite the teary event yesterday when I put them back in the box and sent them off to their next destination: Saskatchewan! (one of Canada's provinces, the third one from the left). I did check the weather forecast for them in SK and it shouldn't be too bad (It can be very cold there!)! Have fun with them Christine, the next artist to host them :)
Not sure if the painting is finished yet, but I had had enough of it that day! I may go back in and redefine some lines, what do you think? Is it finished to you? Comments and suggestions always welcome!  Art by Marcela Strasdas

Till the Next Time TC and Company! Happy Travels!

Tired but Posing for Some Sketches in Victoria, BC, Canada

Fun Sketch & Blind Contour Drawing of TC and Company as soon as they arrived

"Where is the Snow????"

I am very excited to share with you that TC and Co. are visiting us in Victoria, BC this week. I had put my name down a couple of years ago I think to host and paint TC, The Traveling Chicken and was very happy when I got the email saying they were on their way up North.  They were thrilled to get here after being due to snow storms in the US (the itinerary was North Carolina, Florida, Toronto, Vancouver and finally Victoria) They were relieved  to be able get out of the box and stretch a bit after such a long trip.

Now, they confessed they were a bit nervous about coming to Canada in the wintertime, after all, Canada IS ice and snow right? Well.... Were they surprised or what??!?!?  All they kept asking as they looked out my kitchen window was: "Where is the snow??????" I shared with them that they have actually come to the "tropics" of Canada. We ARE on a "small island in the Pacific" after all. True. Vancouver Island in the Pacific North West. We haven't had any snow here this year, snowdrops are long gone, daffodils are up and there are flowers everywhere! I think they like it here!

They posed  for me for a short while so I could just do a quick sketch and blind contour drawings.   They promised to pose longer at some point this week. More to come!

MS. CHICK IS A FUGITIVE!

Ms. Chick and company were lost in transit going from North Carolina to British Columbia, Canada.
She was finally found in Miami!

I finally got a notice that she was in customs in Miami - they may have been trying to make a run for it to warmer weather before they were caught.  I still don't have the details from them.   The authorities released them on good behavior and they should arrive in BC tomorrow or the next day.

I know she did not seem happy going north in the winter. lol!
